UkraineFieldNotes.net documents the everyday reality of civilians living through a full-scale war. Through the observations and experiences of Oleg Fedotov and our other contributors, this project shows life as it truly is in Ukrainian villages, towns, and cities under constant threat.

It reveals how ordinary people adapt, survive, and preserve their dignity despite blackouts, damaged infrastructure, destroyed homes, and the uncertainty of each new day.

These are not staged stories or distant analyses. They are honest field notes: kitchens lit by power banks; neighbourhoods shaken by explosions; long nights without electricity or heating; families rebuilding what was lost; elderly people waiting in cold corridors for humanitarian aid; children doing homework by flashlight; and communities that refuse to break, even when the world seems to overlook their struggle. Our purpose is simple: to show the human side of war — the resilience, fear, kindness, routines, humour, and quiet strength that rarely make headlines or appear in official reports.

Through the perspective of Oleg and our other contributors, Ukraine Field Notes preserves the truth of civilian life during wartime and gives a voice to those who continue to live, work, love, and endure in the midst of destruction. This is the real Ukraine — not propaganda, not myth, but daily life: fragile, courageous, and profoundly human.
